What makes a SONY as SONY
One of the most popular rigs among current CBers.
The design does not make us believe it was produced and used more than twenty years ago.
Most compact gportableh type rig with reputations for its excellent receiving
performance.
One of a few models that have PTT microphone.
Accommodate an external mic with PTT capability.
Only one thing regrettable is its antenna length- 145CM.
Produced: 1984- early 90s
Handy but one of the best performance:
One of the most popular ghandyh type rigs.
Actually it has an excellent performance to be my favorite rig.
Its rod antenna is 197CM, almost limit to the regulation.
Many of this design have been produced as a series of models, including
ICB-870T and ICB-880T.
Also same design of models with much shorter helical antennas were produced,
such as ICB-88H, ICB-87H.
Production of ICB-87R was discontinued around March- April timeframe in 2005.
One thing to be noted is that, although the looks are the same, there are what we call an gearlier modelh and a glater modelh in 87R. Many of the CBers reported earlier model has an excellent performance, while the later one does not. I share this evaluation. Generally, you can tell earlier model from later one by their protection covers: the earlier has a gray plastic cover and the later has a black skin-like cover.
In addition to PTT, it had also a bone-conduction microphone. |
Sony's last portable type transceiver. | Compact, but receiving performance is excellent. |
"Earlier" model has plastic gray protection cover. |
Handy but reliable. Many CBers use this rig. |
"Later" model has black cover. |
